The Drexel University Libraries is excited to welcome Drexel Professor Usama Bilal as its fall 2020 ScholarSip guest speaker.

Professor Bilal, Assistant Professor in the Dornsife School of Public Health and the Urban Health Collaborative, will address this year’s ScholarSip theme, Responding to COVID-19 through Research and Scientific Problem-Solving, with a “food for thought” discussion on how COVID-19 has amplified societal inequities.

During his talk titled Inequities as a Cause and a Consequence of COVID-19, Professor Bilal will share his latest research on the impact of COVID-19 both domestically and globally, demonstrating that the existing narratives on the egalitarian nature of COVID-19 are false and that existing social inequities pose a threat to COVID-19 control. Professor Bilal and his team conducted their research in Chicago, Philadelphia, New York City, Spain and Chile.

The event will be held virtually via Zoom on Monday, December 7 from 4 PM to 5 PM. Although attendees may not experience the serendipitous conversations with colleagues that ScholarSip is so well-known for (not to mention the snacks and sips), the Libraries will take advantage of Zoom breakout groups to stimulate similar discussions among attendees.

Utilizing Zoom also makes it possible for the Libraries to extend the invitation beyond Drexel faculty and professional staff – to students and members of the public.
